Check the schedule and the event details first: they show when a performance takes place, which hall it uses and how to choose seats. The Concertgebouw’s building was completed in late 1886, though its grand opening was delayed by municipal works involving a canal, access roads and street lighting.

You can order tickets online, by telephone or at the box office. The seating layout varies by concert in both the Main Hall and Recital Hall, so consult the seating chart for your event before choosing seats. The ticket information also has separate details about group bookings for parties of 15 people or more and about discounts.

If you plan to buy in person, note that the box office accepts PIN card payments only. Its opening hours depend on the day and concert schedule: on weekdays it opens from 5:00 pm, and on weekends from 10:00 am; from 7:00 pm, it serves only that evening’s concerts.

In June, July and August, weekend opening depends on whether there is an afternoon or evening concert. The box office is closed on days without a concert.

The telephone line is open daily from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at 0031 20 671 83 45. For changing performance details and current ticket arrangements, check the official site before you go.

Plan for doors, seating and access

Plan for doors, seating and access

Check your event’s seating chart and access needs before setting out. Both halls have seats reserved for wheelchair users and accompanying visitors, but the venue recommends contacting its Sales Department because the spaces may not suit every wheelchair. Lifts serve the Recital Hall and the Main Hall balconies.

Wheelchairs are available in the entrance hall, beneath the stairs leading to the Recital Hall. The venue also provides infrared headsets and receivers that relay sound to a visitor’s own hearing aid; you can ask for them at the cloakrooms in either hall.

Seven parking spaces beside the main entrance are reserved for people with physical disabilities. Holders of a valid LPO or European GPK disabled parking card may use these spaces free of charge.

There is no dress code unless the concert listing specifies one. Large coats, packages and umbrellas must be left at the cloakroom, which is free. Animals are not permitted inside, except guide dogs, including those used by blind visitors.

During a concert, audio and visual recording is not allowed from the start until the final applause, and mobile phones must be turned off in the halls. Drinks are included before the concert or during the interval at many performances; the website and ticket indicate when they are not.
